Ohia is the most common of all the Hawaiian trees found today, but it's far from common when it comes to its uses and meaning in Hawaiian culture. For starters, Ohia is only found in Hawaii and nowhere else in the world. Ohia varies considerably from the colors of its flowers (Ohia Mamo | Yellow, Ohia Lehua | Red, Ohia Kea | White) to its height to the shape and color of its leaves. After an eruption Ohia is the first plant to break through the fresh lava flow and paves the way for other plants and life to live and prosper.
