A Historic Day, A Lot of Feelings

This month we talked about La Hoihoi Ea. I shared the story of La Hoihoi Ea through my illustrated book, and showed you how to carve your own Hawaiian flag stamp or draw one with your family. This week, with La Hoihoi Ea just around the corner, I want to point you toward a few resources that helped me learn more about this important day.
Learning about our history isn't always easy. Sometimes it brings up feelings that are hard to sit with. If that happens for you, know that's okay, and you're not alone in it. For me, art is how I process those feelings. For others it might be showing up in community, or something else entirely. However you choose to hold this history is yours, and there's no one right way to do it. Choosing to spend time learning about history will always make the world a better, more educated, and hopefully more compassionate place.
