History Through the Eyes of a Hawaiian Who Lived It
There’s a new book I bought last week that I’m super excited about. It’s called Na Hunahuna Ike Hawaii by John Papa Ii. This collection of writings offers his vivid firsthand account of Hawaiian history spanning from the unification of Hawaii under Kamehameha I through the reign of Kamehameha V. It’s taken from old published Hawaiian newspapers and has been translated so you can read the Hawaiian and English side by side. Published by Awaiaulu - I am so excited to have a copy and can’t wait to learn more about Hawaiian history through the eyes of a Hawaiian who lived it!! I think it might also help me a lot with my Hawaiian as I can look at the original Hawaiian text at the same time. Here’s a link to learn more about this book so you can see for yourself.
