The Hawaiian Language is "Minamina"
Did you take the challenge last week?? The recording I listened to a few times was:
Ka Leo Hawaiʻi 023 Līlia Hale (02/20/1973)
Here were my main takeaways from listening:
-
This is a great recording to learn 3 beautiful mele Hawaii. Lilia Hale sings them very clearly with her group so you can understand and follow along with the transcription.
-
26:30 - They talk about how the Hawaiian language is “minamina” or regrettably not being passed on. This is so interesting to me and sad to hear because if they thought this during a time when there were more native speakers than we have today then what chance do we have?!
-
I’m very grateful to Larry Kimura for making these recordings and interviewing all these kupuna. That was an incredible task for him to do which greatly benefits our Lahui to this day.
