Why I Do Hawaiian at Home

For over 2 years now I’ve been supporting and encouraging my kane and his co-director in a very important project centered around the Hawaiian Language. Over the weekend we had a creative meeting about where the project is at and what needs to happen to finish it. While planning is always important, what really filled our souls during the meeting was talking about the “why” of the project. It’s the same “why” as to why over the past 8 years I’ve always kept some part of Hawaiian at Home alive no matter how busy or stressed I’ve been. It’s because I truly believe that every Hawaiian can learn Hawaiian and that they have a right to learn. I don’t think it’s something that can be learned (for the vast majority of Hawaiians) in a short amount of time. I’m almost 10 years in and I still feel like I’m years away from where I want to be, but I’m committed to learning and every little bit counts. I think as technology continues to develop there will come a time in my day where learning Hawaiian as a family will be a very feasible goal. I’m excited to be a part of that. If you’re interested in learning more about the project and want to support it, you can click on this link here.
