Grateful I Live in Hawaii

Hawaii’s beauty never ceases to take my breath away. I visited Kau on the island of Hawaii this month for a business retreat and coming from Oahu, where we’re all packed in next to each other like a can of sardines, Hawaii island takes me to a different time. The lava fields, the farms, that deep blue coast you can see from everywhere - it makes me want to slow down and appreciate life more.

We stayed at Kahuku Ranch in Kau the whole weekend, but one evening we did get to drive down to Punaluu before it got dark. In Punaluu we found a beautiful black sand tide pool that was completely calm, even with the waves crashing on the main beach a half mile down. It was so pretty.

The black sand made the calm water a complete reflection of the sky and us in the water. The water was crystal clear and there were these little fish that would come eat at your dead skin if you sat just a little still. In the water you could see so many creatures - one of us even saw a small white and black eel curled up on a flat large rock.

It left me feeling a deep sense of gratitude to call Hawaii home. It doesn’t matter where I go in Hawaii - I am always left in awe at its beauty and how alive the land feels to me.
