Let's Put Aloha Out Into the Universe

I’m having a hard time this week focusing on my work and I’m not talking about the usual hard time that I blame on my overactive brain. I’m talking about being mentally and emotionally affected by the destruction going on both natural and manmade at home and abroad.

As a creative professional and believing that creativity is at the center of the human race - seeing destruction in any form really makes me sad. Why - when we could be putting energy into creating solutions and beauty in the world do we instead spend so much time doing the exact opposite? I don’t understand it.

When I’m hurting or distracted in this way - the only thing that helps me is finding ways big or small to put aloha out into the universe in hopes that with the help of others doing the same we might return to a more livable balance of good and crazy in the world.

Luckily, in Hawaii - it’s always easy to find those opportunities and I can always look around me in the community for inspiration and help. So this week I was very happy to work with our community to gather artwork, art supplies, toys, books, and comfort items for boxes for the keiki of North shore most severely affected by the flooding.

Companies, artists, and community members as big as Target and as small as a single person came together quickly to give time, money, and goods for this act of aloha. I am so humbled and blessed to continually witness such goodness in our community by so many people and organizations. May this kind of goodness prevail.
